Description

Counterintuitively, C1q deletion decreased microglial amyloid phagocytosis yet maintained unchanged plaque burden while improving cognition. This challenges the assumption that enhanced microglial amyloid clearance is always beneficial and suggests complex amyloid-cognition relationships.

Gap type: contradiction Source paper: Young adult microglial deletion of C1q reduces engulfment of synapses and prevents cognitive impairment in an aggressive Alzheimer’s disease mouse model. (2025, bioRxiv : the preprint server for biology, PMID:41000995)
