Mechanistic description
SPI1 transcriptionally coordinates both inflammatory gene expression and metabolic enzymes in activated microglia, shifting cells toward glycolytic metabolism that sustains chronic neuroinflammation. Metabolic modulators targeting SPI1-regulated enzymes could restore homeostatic microglial metabolism.
