What resolves this contention: Karube et al. report dMSN collaterals to GPe as a partial subpopulation overlap, while Cazorla-related single-axon work concludes essentially all SNr-projecting dSPNs have GPe collaterals — a quantitative disagreement on prevalence of bridging collaterals. / Although dMSNs project predominantly to the EP and SNr, several studies have revealed that dMSNs have axon collaterals in the GPe ( Fujiyama et al., 2011 ; Kawaguchi et al., 1990 ; Wu et al., 2000 ). / This indicates that the majority (99%) of SNr-projecting dSPNs have collaterals in the GPe consistent with 12 – 14 .
