What resolves this contention: Whether functional like-to-like organisation extends to synaptic-strength weighting inside V1 L2/3: in vitro paired recordings find strong-connection enrichment between co-tuned pairs, while EM-based synapse-count analysis does not see the corresponding scale-up of synaptic connectivity in that compartment. / In mouse V1 L2/3, the few strong unitary EPSPs (heavy-tailed connection-strength distribution) are concentrated between similarly-tuned pyramidal pairs; functional similarity biases strength. / MICrONS V1 finds no significant synaptic-scale like-to-like effect for feature-weight similarity within V1 L2/3 E→E projections, despite robust like-to-like effects across other area-layer pairs.
