open_questions › What resolves this contention: Origin of Reelin+/SST-coexpressing CGE-derived interneurons vs MGE-derived SST / Classical view (Wonders & Anderson 2006; Marin & Rubenstein 2001): SST+ interneurons are MGE-derived (Lhx6+/Nkx2-1+), VIP/CR+ are CGE-derived (Sp8/Prox1+). However, Ma et al. 2006 and Xu et al. 2006 identified a population that co-expresses SST and calretinin, and Sousa & Anderson 2009 / Hu et al. and others reported Nkx6-2-derived SST+ interneurons with mixed properties, complicating the strict MGE↔SST and CGE↔VIP/CR mapping. / Classical view (Wonders & Anderson 2006; Marin & Rubenstein 2001): SST+ interneurons are MGE-derived (Lhx6+/Nkx2-1+), VIP/CR+ are CGE-derived (Sp8/Prox1+).
