What resolves this contention: Direction of VIP recruitment by aversive vs appetitive cues / VIP cells in ACx are activated by reward and punishment via cholinergic and orbitofrontal inputs (Pi 2013) / VIP cells in BLA/ACx are activated by aversive stimuli to gate associative learning (Krabbe 2019; Letzkus 2011)
