What resolves this contention: Whether cortical associative memory representations are organized as discrete fixed-point attractors (Hopfield/Amit) or as low-dimensional continuous manifolds emerging from balanced E/I assemblies. / The collective properties of this model produce a content-addressable memory which correctly yields an entire memory from any subpart of sufficient size. / Unlike classical memory models, networks with E/I assemblies did not show discrete attractor dynamics.
