Immunosenescent CD8+ T cells with telomere shortening are detectable in inflammatory disease contexts (spondyloarthritis, Paldino et al. 2025, DOI 10.1002/art.43109), suggesting that senescence markers observed in aging cohorts may be accelerated by chronic antigenic stimulation rather than chronological age alone. This confound must be controlled in decade-binned cohort analyses.
