Iron-dependent protein aggregation cross-talk in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease

PMID:40427409 described how iron accumulation may fuel disease-specific protein aggregation in AD and PD. However, whether iron directly catalyzes amyloid-beta or alpha-synuclein fibrillization, or whether aggregation is a downstream consequence of iron-induced oxidative damage, is unclear. The causal relationship between iron dysregulation and protein aggregation in human disease requires mechanistic dissection.
