What resolves this contention: Aponte et al. localize sufficiency for AGRP-evoked feeding to the AGRP soma without resolving the necessary downstream node, and explicitly show melanocortin signaling is not required for AGRP-evoked feeding. Atasoy et al. then assign the bulk of the acute feeding effect to the AGRP→PVH inhibitory projection (specifically AGRP suppression of PVH oxytocin neurons), narrowing the circuit substantially and challenging interpretations that ARC-only manipulations are sufficient explanations. / Activation of only 800 AGRP neurons in mice evoked voracious feeding within minutes. / An inhibitory circuit with paraventricular hypothalamus (PVH) neurons substantially accounted for acute AGRP neuron-evoked eating, whereas two other prominent circuits were insufficient.
