Dlx1/2 are central and essential components of the transcriptional code generating olfactory-bulb (OB) interneurons: in Dlx1/2 constitutive null mutants, GSX2+/ASCL1+ neural progenitor differentiation, intermediate progenitor proliferation, and migration of immature OB interneurons through the rostral migratory stream are all impaired. Dlx1/2 act both upstream and parallel to other lineage TFs (Sp8, Sp9, Pax6) in the LGE → OB-IN trajectory.
